which
route should I take?
|
This simple diagnostic
may help you decide which route to concentrate on.
1. Are you an experienced
tutor, currently using email (at least) to support learners? Do
you know what you are doing and just want to get on with the work
you need to do to pass?
If the answer to either
or both of these questions is 'Yes', the assessment
route is most likely to suit you best, most of the time.
2. Do you want
to understand the theory behind principles of online support before
putting them into practice?
If so, the step-by-step route may well suit you best. Take care, however, not
to try to read to much! It is often better to dip into the step-by-step route when you want to do more background reading. Related
links are included within the activity and assessment
routes, and you may find that you want to alternate between
routes, rather than use the step-by-step route alone.
Even if you find the
step-by-step route suits you, try to skip over areas you are
familiar with, and concentrate on those that are unfamiliar. If
you find anything difficult or puzzling, get in touch with your
facilitator. You should also check the glossary
and the faq pages to see if they
have what you are looking for. If they don't, please send
your question to us, too, and we'll consider it for inclusion
on this site.
3. Do you like
'learning-by-doing'?
If so, the activity
route could well suit you best for much of the time.
Remember that you
don't have to stick to any one route. Choose whichever suits you
best at the time, depending on your own preferences, and circumstances.
If unsure, please talk to your facilitator as soon as you can.
Further guidance:
Although we recommend that you read through the introductory
guide, the unit
specification and the assessment
guide before embarking on work in any route, there is a lot
to read through and absorb. A 'fast track' or 'course in a nutshell'
guide has been prepared to assist you. If you want to make a quick
start, remind yourself of essentials, get suggestions of which
external sites to visit for information on various topics touched
upon, or get practical advice on evidence required, you should
find it useful:

This Word document
gives you a simple set of questions to help you identify what
you need to do (in terms of deciding which route to follow, which
activities to do, and what evidence to gather), from starting
the unit to completion:
