step-by-step route: study section 2

Introduction

Welcome to Study Section 2

This section relates to Outcomes 2 and 3 of the Unit.

(See also: Outcomes 2 and 3 in the Assessment Guide)

Learning objectives of this section are to:

  • develop plans for supporting learners in terms of their understanding of the personal interaction, tools, expectations of online learning and support, and the different types of communication
  • manage your provision of online support for your learners
  • prepare a portfolio with accompanying commentary that will document your use of computer-mediated communication techniques to enhance your learners' experience.

More specifically, this section aims to provide opportunity for practising:

part a - Preparation for online support

  • explore the technological, operational and learning perspective

part b - Induction

  • connect to an online support system, build a rapport with the learner and build an effective learning environment

part c - Providing online support for learners in practice

  • manage computer-maintained communication techniques

Study time

It is expected that you will spend approximately 25 hours on this section (whichever route(s) you use). This is only a rough guide, however, and the time you need to gather evidence for outcomes 2 and 3 will very much depend upon your own circumstances. Try to keep your facilitator informed of your progress.
