facilitator support

During your learning programme you will get support from a facilitator. A facilitator is a tutor who will support tutors undertaking the SQA unit.

Support will normally be in the form of email communication with the facilitator and the use of online discussion forums that involve exchanges with other tutor-candidates.

Whenever you would like support from your tutor or other programme participants, make contact. Do not try to 'go it alone' without any support at all!

learning support environment

The facilitator will issue participants with a password that will allow tutor-candidates to enter a learning support area for the unit.

The support area, or 'online support system', will normally include a discussion area, resources library area (in the form of web pages, downloadable documents, etc.) and frequently asked questions page or file.

This support area is different from the SLN website which provides similar facilities that you could use to communicate with your learners.

tutor support material

support pack

The support pack provides resource material for tutors as they work towards the unit and when they are working with learners. The pack contains a range of learning activities - it is not essential to use all of the activities, just the ones that are of assistance and interest to you.

online support pack - this site!

This is an online version of the printed support pack - it provides a quick way to access the resource material and external sites, and to navigate between sections.

The pack has 3 routes to access the material - step-by-step route, activity route and assessment route

The URL (in case you are reading this on paper) is:

The site still has a mirror here (in case the above link is ever unavailable):

fast track guide

This guide provides outline details of what must be done to complete the unit - it may be of particular interest to tutors who have some experience of supporting learners online. It is available as a Word document (159KB), a zip file (106KB), as plain text (13KB) or as a series of web pages:

self-assessment questionnaire

This includes a series of questions which allow tutors to identify their own learning needs and therefore the learning activities that would be of benefit to them. You can get it as a Word document:

SelfAssessmentQuestionnaire.doc (81KB)

tutor support sessions

induction session

This is a face-to-face (F2F) introduction to the unit, the facilitator, others in the group, and the online support system used by your particular group.

tutor forum meetings

These F2F meetings are held within LEC areas to provide an opportunity for tutor-candidates to be briefed on SLN and to discuss issues relating to the unit and the implementation of SLN.

F2F facilitator-led workshops

Some training providers are running F2F sessions as additional support. If you would like to attend workshops, which can cover basic IT skills and the use of conferencing facilities, if required, as well as preparation of assessments, please contact your facilitator.
