The unit is aimed at tutors who wish to update their skills to enable them to provide support to learners in an online environment. What skills do I need? The unit assumes that the candidates are experienced tutors and have relevant IT skills (sending emails, using web browsers). A pre-start checklist has been devised to help you check whether you have the relevant skills. If you do not have these skills, you may wish to consider undertaking additional training before starting on the programme. You should contact your line manager or your Local Enterprise Company (LEC) representative to discuss this further. How much time do I need? Time is a big consideration when undertaking the unit - tutors need to be realistic and set aside some time each week to do the unit. It is anticipated that tutors will be required to spend approximately 40 hours on learning and assessment activities. Those who have experience of supporting learning online may take less time. During the programme, facilitators set target for certain activities and assignments to be completed, and monitor participants' progress. What do I need to get started? You will need:
